In an age where cheaper and faster is the norm, listening to Kim and Adam Blanchette of Blanchette Press talk about their work will leave you a little misty-eyed.

This is a family business and it‘s been one since 1975. There are a lot of things that make this Richmond, BC-based press special. For one, they genuinely believe that good working relationships are cultivated and trust is earned. It seems simple, but it’s not that common these days. As Kim Blanchette puts it, “We’re here to be a partner. We build things with you, and for you, and around you.”

They‘re modest about their roster of clients, but being trusted by the likes of Richard Avedon, Annie Leibovitz, Steve McCurry, and Pentagram speaks volumes about the quality of Blanchette‘s work. But while they‘ve “worked with the best of the best,” they’re also passionate about working with people they see potential in — untapped or unrecognized talent. Kim says, “Every project challenges us in a different way. Of course there are some similarities, but after that it‘s a creative process.” Kim’s son Adam echoes that sentiment: “Where we excel is in the challenges, and that‘s what‘s exciting for us.”

If you ask Kim what he’s inspired by, there’s no hesitation: “Images. Type. Ink on paper. People inspire me. We have the opportunity to build something. Most people never get that.”
